11 Plus Tutor in London

The 11+ examination is an academic assessment for entry to selective state grammar schools and/or independent secondary schools for the most academically able children. This is not compulsory but an alternative to state comprehensive education.

The assessment will comprise English, math, verbal and non-verbal reasoning and may be online, written or a combination of both. Verbal and non-verbal reasoning is not taught in state primary schools but may be taught in independent preparatory schools. For successful candidates, they will be invited to a second round of exams (school dependent) and an interview.

The assessment will cover the KS2 curriculum with elements of KS3. Students hoping to be successful should be working at ‘greater depth’ in their current year group.

There are two main exam boards for the 11+ assessment - CEM and GL.

English

Students will be tested on comprehension, creative writing and spelling and grammar.

Verbal reasoning

Students will be tested on a series of word puzzles, analogies, language aptitude, vocabulary and sequences.

Maths

Students will be tested on pure mathematics, logic and complex problem solving.

Non verbal reasoning

Students will be tested on a series of spatial, sequential and quantitative reasoning.
